Plastic Surgery derives its name from the Greek word, Plastikos, which means ‘to change or mold’. The theme of changing or molding is the common thread that binds the often diverse problems managed by Plastic Surgeons. Plastic Surgeons treat aesthetic concerns, congenital problems, traumatic injuries, skin cancers, defects created in the management of oncologic problems, hand abnormalities, chronic wounds and problems due to aging. In managing all of these problems, the role of Plastic Surgery is to change or mold in order to restore form and function.
