As the face ages, skin thins and becomes less elastic, subcutaneous tissues
droop and even the bony structures change to a limited degree. These changes are
manifested in different ways in different parts of the face. In the upper face,
the brow droops, transverse and vertical skin creases become more prominent
and the eyelids become redundant and lax. In the lower face, drooping subcutaneous fat and thinning of the skin results in prominent jowls and nasolabial folds lateral to the mouth, along with an ill defined jaw line and loose neck skin. A facelift helps reposition the tissues of the lower face and neck in a more youthful orientation. During a facelift, excess skin is excised and deeper structures of the face are often tightened or repositioned. A browlift helps reposition the brow and forehead at a more youthful level and minimize the number of skin creases. These procedures are often performed together to harmoniously rejuvenate the facial area. During a consultation, the pros and cons of these procedures can be discussed in relation to your specific problem areas.

Some individuals have prominent areas of fat that bulge in their eyelids from the time they are relatively young. Everyone develops some laxity of the eyelid tissues as they age. Some people simply develop redundant eyelid skin, whereas others develop bulges related to laxity in the deeper tissues. A blepharoplasty can often improve the appearance of the area around the eyes. The nature of the procedure performed will vary depending on the individuals specific problems, and it is often combined with a browlift for individuals with problems that involve the brow area as well. During a consultation, the pros and cons of a blepharoplasty can be discussed as can the particular type of procedure which would benefit you the most.

Rhinoplasty, or nasal surgery, is sometimes performed to correct nasal deformities with which people are born, and sometimes to correct problems that result from prior injury. During a rhinoplasty, different components of the nose are reduced, enlarged or therwise modified so as to alter the appearance of the nose. If nasal breathing is impaired, aspects of the procedure are directed towards improving the nasal airway as well. Rhinoplasty surgery is not performed in the same manner in all people. The surgical procedure varies with the problems and desires of each individual. Sometimes external incisions are required, but incisions inside the nose are all that is needed on other occasions. The goal of rhinoplasty surgery is to create a new nasal appearance that is harmonious with a person's other facial structures. During a consultation, surgical goals are discussed in light of what is possible for you.

Some individuals are born with excessively prominent ears. This does not create any problem with hearing, though it can lead to teasing and comments about “Dumbo” ears. This problem can be corrected with an otoplasty. During an otoplasty, the shape of the ear cartilage is altered to create a more natural contour to the ear. This is generally accomplished through incisions on the posterior aspect of the ear. Everyone's ears are different, and the procedure is performed somewhat differently depending on each individual's unique problem. The pros and cons of the procedure and what will be done for your specific problem would be discussed during a consultation.

As people age, they commonly develop fine wrinkles in their facial skin. This occurs to a more prominent degree in some individuals than others, and tends to occur more in individuals that spend a significant amount of time in the sun or smoke. Additional skin irregularities can develop from scarring from either injuries or acne. Both fine wrinkling and scar irregularities can often be improved by resurfacing of the facial skin. Chemical peels, laser treatment or dermabrasion can all accomplish this. Each treatment modality has advantages and disadvantages. The pros and cons of each modality will be discussed in relation to your particular problem during a consultation. In addition, skin care programs, which can also effectively minimize fine wrinkles, will be offered.
